New Gears 5 Story Trailer Revealed At Gamescom 2019 (VIDEO)

The opening night of Gamescom 2019 has truly kicked off with a blast, with The Game Awards creator Geoff Keighley starting the show by welcoming The Coalition’s Rod Fergusson to the stage to speak about Gears 5. Discussion about the upcoming title quickly gave way to a brand new story trailer for the game, with the rather aptly placed background music of Nine Inch Nails’ Head Like a Hole. Check it out below:

According to Rod Fergusson, Gears 5 is all about being a two-sided story with converging storylines. With previous games focusing on “finding the monsters,” the monsters are finally here “and they’re pissed off.” The other part of the story focuses on the inside of Kait’s head and what she’s going through. Here’s the new story blurb we received courtesy of the gameplay trailer:

The world is crumbling. Humanity’s reliance on technology has become their downfall and enemies are uniting to wipe out all survivors. As Kait you must journey across the biggest, most beautiful Gears world to uncover the origins of the Locust, and fight with your squad to protect what’s left.”

The Gears 5 story wasn’t the only new footage shown off, as Fergusson also unveiled some footage for the game’s Horde mode. According to Fergusson, each individual character will have their own ultimate abilities, with the newcomer ‘Jack’ being the perfect support character for the friend that may be new to the Gears franchise.

Gears 5 is slated to release on September 10 for PC and Xbox One.
