New Details Emerge About Game of Thrones Season 7
(WARNING: There are possible Game of Thrones spoilers ahead for both the show and the books.) It was reported last year that Jim Broadbent(Harry Potter, Iris) would be joining the cast of Game of Thrones for the upcoming season. It was also said that he would be playing a significant role. Of course, with all GoT news, fan speculation runs wild. However, those who theorized the role Broadbent would be playing honed in rather quickly on the possibility of him portraying Maester Marwyn. Thanks to a recent interview with ScreenCrush, Jim has all but confirmed exactly who he is playing in Game of Thrones season 7.

In the interview, Broadbent spoke of his character and said, “I’m a maester, an archmaester. I’m an old professor character.” He went on to reveal that he’ll have a “major scene” in each of the five Game of Thrones season 7 episodes that he shows up in, and that he also appears with John Bradley’s Sam Tarley. For those playing the speculation game at home, the last we saw of Sam in the show was him being in Oldtown to train to become a maester. After arriving, he was told to wait in the library to speak with the archmaester. It’s likely that Broadbent will be said archmaester, and if the show is to align with the books, it will be Maester Marwyn sitting down with Sam.
In other Game of Thrones season 7 news, Isaac Hempstead Wright, who plays Bran, sat down with Entertainment Weekly to give a few updates on how his character is doing after we last saw him. “He’s only with Meera now, and he’s out in the middle of nowhere, so it’s not looking great,” Wright said. Of course, if you are caught up on all things GoT, you’ll remember the tragedy that struck Bran’s world at the end of season 6. Hodor, Summer, and the Three-Eyed Raven have all been lost, and Bran now has to adapt to life without them. When asked about becoming the new Three-Eyed Raven, he said:
What’s been important has been taking this new role and that’s what Bran has done his whole life. He suddenly lost his legs, and then his family got killed, and then his house burned down, so it’s like, okay, “Now I’m in this forest with all these random people, and now I’m having weird dreams,” but what Bran is thinking of above anything else is this sense of responsibility and purpose and not just being a kid anymore and doing whatever he wants to do. Bran has certainly understood that this is out of his control now. He’s a piece on the chessboard that has to make a move, and he hasn’t got any moves.”
