Following the epic culmination of Avengers: Endgame, the Marvel Cinematic Univers has been set on delivering a major shift to the comic book movie series’ status quo. While we wait for the long-delayed Black Widow movie to release, Marvel’s streaming offerings have so far done a stellar job in bringing this new era to fruition, from the reality-bending heartbreak of WandaVision to the exciting mantle-passing of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. On the heels of the latter, it looks like we may now also have a ​new Captain America movie on our hands as well.

This news comes from a new report from The Hollywood Reporter, which confirms an all-​new Captain America film is currently in its beginning stages at Marvel Studios. While details are scarce on the upcoming fourth entry, ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ showrunner Malcolm Spellman is currently slated to pen the anticipated project alongside Dalan Musson, who served as a key writer on the Disney Plus series.

As it has only just taken flight, very little is currently known about this ​new Captain America project, with no potential director or casting details divulged as part of the announcement. Actor Chris Evans notably starred as the Star-Spangled Man across nearly ten years of films in the MCU, with the character’s tenure seeing a definitive conclusion in the final moments of Avengers: Endgame. To put a stamp on things, the 2019 film also saw Steve Rogers officially pass the Cap torch (shield) to Sam Wilson, a.k.a. The Falcon.

While it’s possible Chris Evans could return for this new film in some capacity, Marvel has been thoroughly setting up Anthony Mackie’s Wilson as the next to don the iconic stars and stripes – a fact made very evident following the finale of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Another possible inclusion for the film might be The Winter Soldier himself Bucky Barnes, though, again, nothing has yet been confirmed in an official capacity. More details about the ​new Captain America movie will likely unfold as the project gets its wings.
