Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks Remaster Is Being Considered, Says Ed Boon
As 2019 begins its final two months, many gamers looking back at 2019 would view Mortal Kombat 11 as one of the more favorable games to release this year. The title still continues to excite fans in the fighting game scene with new updates including DLC fighters like The Terminator and The Joker. The franchise has had a long lifetime, and many may forget that the series has ventured outside of the comforts of its standard 2D-perspective 1v1 fighting game standards. As such, many have wondered if NetherRealm has considered developing a Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks remaster. According to recent comments, it seems that this answer is indeed yes.
Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon recently spoke at a Q&A session at the Brazil Game Show about the Mortal Kombat franchise, the full length of which can be seen on Gam3rPlayer3’s YouTube channel. Boon received many questions about the series, including one particular question asking if NetherRealm would remake any classic games from the series. Boon responded by specifically mentioning a Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks remaster, saying:
We’ve talked about doing remasters of some of the older games, you know Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks was one of the ones that have been asked for doing a remastered version and in we’re thinking of it. We have nothing to announce but it would be something we’d like to see”
For those unaware, Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks was a 2005 action/adventure title released on Xbox and PlayStation 2 that saw players control Kung Lao and Liu Kang combat hordes of enemies in 3D fighting gameplay. Ed Boon did recently say that NetherRealm would be making a big announcement in 2020, but it does not seem to be regarding a remake like this, and it may not even be a Mortal Kombat adjacent announcement at all. Still, for a remake of a fan-favorite game like this to exist, it would be a total knockout. Or perhaps even a fatality.
