Mortal Kombat Movie Receives New Release Date
For the last few months, Warner Bros’ new Mortal Kombat movie has in the midst of production, with several behind-the-scenes teases hinting at a truly action-packed and decidedly violent adventure when the film eventually reached theaters. For a while, fans have been expecting to wait until March 5, 2021 to see the epic martial arts tournament officially begin. However, a new schedule shift has now moved the movie’s premiere to a date considerably earlier than anticipated.
As revealed by Deadline, Warner Bros has moved the release for the Mortal Kombat movie up to January 15th, 2021–a full seven weeks ahead of its original premiere. This trip across the calendar was part of a wider release shuffle for WB, the move happening after dates were set for the upcoming Matrix 4 follow-up and DC’s standalone The Flash film. The Mortal Kombat movie’s writer Greg Russo was one to share the news via Twitter, seen below.

Filming has appeared to move at a pretty steady pace since beginning back in September, with quite a few looks at the production being regularly shown off by actors and other crew members. Though we have yet to see an official look at how characters will look in the final product, revelations such as the film’s redesigned logo, the discovery of a new female cast member, as well as a tease of Sub-Zero’s powers have appeared through various means of social media. With the movie’s release moving up nearly two months earlier, we’re only that much closer to seeing an official look at the movie, whenever that may be.
Mortal Kombat will release in theaters on January 15th, 2021.
