Microsoft Minesweeper Ugly Sweater Already Sold Out For The Holidays

Minesweeper Ugly Sweater

Another holiday season is upon us, and with it comes all of the traditional capitalist festivities! The world of video games is no stranger to the holidays, even though supply chain issues may make the most current hardware more scarce for gift-givers than usual. One time-honored tradition for the holidays is ugly knitted sweaters, which in recent years have gotten the treatment of using licensed characters. Microsoft has been quick to celebrate their past, such as their celebration this year of the 20th anniversary of the original Xbox. Now, Microsoft has unveiled their new classic Minesweeper sweater that is perfect for the 90s kid in your life.

Microsoft has listed their new classic Minesweeper ugly sweater on their official Xbox gear online shop. Just in time for the holidays, the sweeper celebrates the beloved game that came for free with Windows 98 operating systems. The sweater turns the iconic squares filled with either numbers or bombs and re-shapes them into Christmas trees instead. There are also pixelated mines and snowflakes as well. The top is framed to look like a Windows…well, window, complete with minimize, maximize and close buttons. Instead of the score and clock at the top, the sweater makes note of 1990 and 2021, the year that the game was first released, and the current year.

Sadly, the Minesweeper ugly sweater proved to be too powerful a nostalgia trip for anyone to pass up, as the sweater quickly sold out, and remains out of stock days later, as of writing. Hopefully, though, disappointed Windows fans may find refuge knowing that this sweater was made to help support the charity AbleGamers, which helps fund disabled game developers and efforts towards making video games more accessible to people of all needs. Microsoft has contributed $100,000 to AbleGamers as a result of this sweeping sale, and that is a cause worthy of exploding on the internet with popularity. Hopefully, the sweater is restocked soon so fans can have a very Miney Holiday!
