New Trailer for Metroid: Samus Returns Shows Off New Powers and More – Full Overview Here (VIDEO)

For those veteran gamers that enjoyed Metroid 2 on the original Game Boy, the reveal of its “re-imagining” at E3 this year was a huge (and lovely) surprise. Metroid: Samus Returns will revisit this classic and thanks to Nintendo, we now have a more detailed look at as to what expectations should be. The latest video shows off new powers, some sick new moves, and more for the upcoming game. Check out the latest overview trailer in the video below:

The video above highlights the addition of the Aeion abilities – four different powers indicated by a new special bar: The Scan Pulse, Beam Burst, Phase Drift, and the Lightning Armor. With the inclusion of these four new abilities, Samus is granted several different boons, including that of temporary invulnerability seen with the Lightning Armor.

  • Lightning Armor – Defensive suit addition for temporary invulnerability
  • Scan Pulse – The ability to scan surroundings for anything hidden from plain sight and hazardous blockage
  • Beam Burst – Increases the firing power of Samus’ arm cannon
  • Phase Drift – An ability to slow down time giving players a significant advantage in combat

New weapons and new moves were also a highlight in the most recent video including some of the more memorable equipment pieces from games’ past. The Morph Ball, Ice Beam, Grapple Beam, and more can all be seen in action as Samus makes her way throughout the game.

For those Nintendo fans that are also hearty Amiibo collectors, there is a special edition line of Metroid-specific pieces that add yet another layer of immersion to this most recent retelling of Samus’ tale. You can check out the new Amiibos, which will be releasing next month with the game, right here. There is also an incredibly limited New 3DS XL handheld coming out with Samus front and not so center, but Nintendo advises that they will be extremely limited in quantity.

Metroid: Samus Returns releases world-wide for the Nintendo 3DS on September 19th. Will you be picking up a copy of the Game Boy classic re-imagined?
