Live-Action Uno Film In The Works With Lil Yachty And Mattel

Uno

Game adaptions are a dime a dozen these days, with many IPs getting a film or TV adaption such as Monster Hunter, Mortal Kombat, and more. Over time, several games have also seen adaptions that can be quite peculiar. The classic 1985 film Clue is a prime example, which doesn’t appear as though it could become a full film, but somehow manages to be quite entertaining nonetheless. Now, another new film adaption is set to make an appearance, pulling influence from the casual card game Uno of all things.

A recent report details musician Lil Yachty is set to not only develop a film based on Mattel’s popular family tabletop game, but is also under consideration for the lead role. According to Variety, the film will be set in the underground hip-hop world of Atlanta and will feature an “action-heist” type of adventure, though, how the two plot elements might be connected remains to be seen. There was no mention of any other actors that are considered for the cast, but the movie is being written by Marcy Kelly and has a few other accomplished names working on the project including Quality Control’s Kevin Lee, Pierre Thomas, and Brian Sher.

Uno

An Uno film is certainly unexpected but it appears this is precisely what Mattel is hoping to do. Mattel Films producer Robbie Brenner suggested as much in an accompanying statement, saying the brand was “looking to explore stories that bring our brands to life in unexpected ways.” Lil Yachty also released a comment, explaining he has been a fan of the tabletop game since childhood and is excited to be part of the upcoming film project.

I’m so excited to be part of this film with Mattel. I played Uno as a kid and still do today, so to spin that into a movie based on the Atlanta hip hop scene I came out of is really special. It hits close to home for me.”

There’s no word yet as to when the film will be released but it will be interesting to see what kind of story the writers can do under the concept of “Uno”.
