No matter whether or not you’ve played World of Warcraft before, chances are you know of the infamous Leeroy Jenkins. The character and his infamous lines have become synonymous as a phrase similar to ” Here, hold my beer,” usually followed with charging head first into danger without waiting for backup. While many players within the WoW community were already aware, it may come as a shock to some to know that the phrase was scripted and based off of a comedy skit. On the bright side, even with the knowledge that the whole thing was staged- it’s still hilarious.
For those who aren’t familiar with the phrase, on May 11th, 2005 a video was uploaded featuring a group of guildmates from Pals For Life in WoW. While they were discussing a plan of attack on a dangerous zone known as the Rookery in the Upper Blackrock Spire of the game. This area was widely known for it’s large quantity of Dragonspawn, and incredibly difficult enemy to defeat. Mid discussion an Paladin named Leeroy comes back from being AFK and yells, “Alright let’s do this!” followed by, “LEEEERROOOOY JENKINS!” as he charges headlong into the awaiting enemies. The party frantically attempts to help but eventually all are killed.
