Kojima Productions Mascot ‘Ludens’ is Finally Here, a 1/2 Scale Collectible for $2,000 (GALLERY)

Hideo Kojima has been teasing fans with progress pictures of Ludens for a few months now. Ludens is the official mascot for Kojima Productions, a company that is a just a little over a year old – the anniversary having just passed this 16th of December.

The mascot caters to the message Kojima Productions has to say for gamers, fans, and developers alike – including themselves. A more philosophical approach to the gaming community and Kojima Productions welcomes the term Homo Ludens, that the company has defined as “Those Who Play.” Below is part of the message the gaming studio wants to relay to all:

‘Playing’ is not simply a pastime,
it is the primordial basis of imagination and creation. Truth be told, Homo Ludens (Those why Play) are simultaneously Homo Faber (Those who Create).

Even if the earth were stripped of life and reduced to a barren wasteland, our imagination and desire to create would persevere beyond survival, it would provide hope that flowers may one day bloom again. Through the invention of play, our new evolution awaits.

Kojima Productions
We are Homo Ludens. We are those who play.

Unfortunately, according to the official Prime 1 Studio website, only 150 units will be sold worldwide.  Not only is the Ludens limited in stock, but there’s no telling if they will produce more at a later date – if at all. The current price being sold at is 235,900 yen, translating to well over two-thousand US dollars. For our US viewers here, Sideshow Collectibles has Ludens tagged at 1,999.99 USD.

The dimensions and information on ‘Kojima Productions Ludens 1/2 Scale Statue – EX Version’ are no joke. With a height measuring 5.2 feet (1 m and 59 cm), and 1.8 feet wide (54 cm), including the flag – the figure is massive. Rather telling of the $2,000 USD price tag, isn’t it? Designed by Yoji Shinkawa, who is known for his role as illustrator in the Metal Gear video game series, there was no going wrong. With that being said, his eye for detail is very apparent. You can see for yourself in the gallery below:

Yes, there’s even LED lighting in the helmet and a giant Kojima Productions flag. The statue is available for pre-order now, with shipments beginning anywhere between January and March 2018. Will you be ordering one for yourself? If so, you better get on that now, before all 150 limited units are gone! Let us know your thoughts on the Ludens statue in the comments section below, we would love to hear from you!
