Koei Tecmo America Teases Dynasty Warriors 9 (VIDEO)
Koei Tecmo, developers of such games as Dynasty Warriors 8, Attack on Titan, and Dead or Alive 5, have released a teaser trailer for Dynasty Warriors 9. The video is more of an official announcement as it is only 17 seconds long, but fans of the long running tactical action games will be excited, nonetheless. Check it out below:
The game is currently in development by Omega Force, a subsidiary of Koei Tecmo. They are responsible for the Dynasty series as well as Samurai Warriors, Hyrule Warriors, and Fists of the North Star: Ken’s Rage. You may have noticed the number 8 in the teaser trailer, that is because the game’s Japanese titles are one number behind that of the United States. That is because the first game titled Dynasty Warriors, which is titled Sangokumusō in Japan, is a fighting game as opposed to the tactical war games. Due to the US/English titling, this has messed with the sequential numbering.
The reveal was shown at Jump Festa 2017 in Japan. According to the game’s Producer, Akihiro Suzuki, says that since Sangokumusō 8 is the first main-numbered title in a while, they’re facing multiple challenges to make the new entry more of a “rebirth” for the series. One of those challenges is making the game an open world title with the intent of bringing all of China’s continent into one giant playable map. This also marks the 15th anniversary of the series, which is one of the reasons the developers are trying to go above and beyond for the next installment.
Suzuki also said that at this time, they are not revealing which platforms the game will be released on. No official release date has been give either. Koei Tecmo did confirm that the character Zhou Cang will be returning for the new series entry. Below, you can see a gallery of some concept art that was featured during the reveal:
