New Kingdom Hearts III Keyblade Transformations Explained By Director Nomura

Kingdom Hearts III Keyblade Transformations

Kingdom Hearts III has been keeping its fanbase waiting for its arrival for years now, but the gradual release of new information has been keeping the hype alive in fans, especially this past weekend with the announcement trailer revealing a new world based on the Toy Story films to be featured in the game. An interesting addition to the series seen in the trailers for the game has been the special moves that Sora, the protagonist, uses that make his keyblade shapeshift. Now, we have more information from the game’s director, Tetsuya Nomura, about these new Kingdom Hearts III Keyblade transformations.

Nomura has spoken with Game Informer to provide details about these new Keyblade transformations. Viewers of the trailers have noticed the Keyblade turning into two different items or weapons for each world that Sora fights in. For instance, the Toy Story gameplay shown this weekend showed the Keyblade turning into a large hammer and then a drill afterwards. Nomura has confirmed that this multiple level system of transformation will be seen throughout the game’s worlds. As Nomura states about the system pertaining to each keyblade, “you start out with your first phase of transformation, and if you successfully connect your combos, the [next] transformation will happen.”

Nomura does however want players to know that the transformation system could still change somewhat by the time the final game releases, given the complex nature of game development. Nonetheless, the system allows for some beautifully animated special attacks and combos that take advantage of the current gen technology and colorful worlds the series is known for.
