Sorry, Jackman Fans – The Rumor of the Wolverine in the Live-Action Lion King is False
It can be difficult to be prepared when a rumor hits the Internet. The flames grow stronger as word spreads of a surprise announcement, whether it’s a new project or a perfect casting. In any case, rumors can be a tricky business, especially when they involve some big players such as Disney and the likes of the Wolverine himself Hugh Jackman. With the opening of the D23 Expo now in the books, it’s safe to say that a lot of great things have been announced. One such project to receive attention is the live-action Lion King film.
While the movie was not announced during the event, fans in attendance caught a first glimpse at what’s to come, including all of the actors that will be taking on some of the most beloved roles in animation history. A fair amount of castings have been announced, but there had been no word on Scar. Earlier in the day, however, a report claimed that Hugh Jackman was taking on the role, and that’s when it all began. Omega Underground was told “by someone with knowledge from the production” that the Wolverine actor would be donning a new set of claws and lending his ferocious voice to the character.
While no official announcement was made at the D23 Expo, let’s face it – that is some pretty quality casting. Unfortunately, as it goes with some rumors, it began to seem less and less likely that there was any truth to the initial report. That’s when the hammer came down and a representative of Hugh Jackman began letting people know that he is not playing Scar in the live-action Lion King film. Bummer.
Of course, now that the Hugh rumor has been put to rest, who will be taking on the role of the wicked brother of Mufasa? Since James Earl Jones is returning, would it be entirely out of the question to think Jeremy Irons could reprise his role? With the recent announcement of John Oliver taking on the role of Zazu, there’s no telling who could be in the running for Scar. The live-action Lion King is also starring Donald Glover(Simba), Seth Rogen(Pumbaa), and Billy Eichner(Timon), and it is set to release on July 19, 2019.
