Mantic Games, tabletop wargame creator responsible for titles like  The Walking Dead: All Out War, Mars Attacks – The Miniatures Game, and Star Saga made an exciting announcement today. In a licensed partnership with Dark Horse Comics, the company plans to create a Hellboy board game based on Mike Mignola’s comics. Here is what Ronnie Renton, Mantic CEO, had to say about the game:

Hellboy has a great cast of characters, diverse locations and legendary monsters from the pages of folklore and myth. The comics provide a fantastic foundation on which to build an immersive, fun and fast-paced co-operative board game that will let players experience some of their favorite moments from the series.”

The Hellboy board game will have its own Kickstarter campaign coming in April of this year. The game will feature major characters from the B.P.R.D. including Hellboy, Roger the Homunculus, and Abe Sapien. Each player will get to play as one of these characters in search of ancient artifacts hidden in “gothic locations”. Chief Business Development Officer Nick McWhorter of Dark Horse had this to say about the new game:

Mantic is not only a leader in the Miniatures Board Game category, but also have a thorough understanding of Hellboy and the B.P.R.D. storylines and how to integrate them into a game.  We’re confident they can deliver a board game that fans of Hellboy and miniatures games alike can appreciate!”

The Hellboy board game follows a long list of graphic novels, comics, films, and toys. Fans will certainly want to hop on the Kickstarter when it launches this spring. The Hellboy board game is also joining the Hellboy film in pre-production with Stranger Things’ David Harbour taking the lead.
