Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice Fundraiser Brings In Big Money For World Mental Health Day
Earlier in the month, developer Ninja Theory ran a fundraising campaign for World Mental Health Day (October 10th). The company promised to donate the proceeds from any and all purchases of their latest title Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice made on that day. They have kept true to that promise, and what an incredible donation it was.
Due to the content of Hellblade, which paints a very vivid picture of what it’s like to suffer from conditions such as schizophrenia, the developers pledged to donate the earnings on World Mental Health Day to Rethink Mental Illness. The organization works to bring awareness to mental health issues as well as working to assist those that are affected by it. Ninja Theory’s one day campaign raised approximately $80,000, which was all donated.
Ninja Theory’s co-founder Tameem Antoniades stated:
We’re proud of our fans for showing their kindness towards others who, like our hero Senua, need our help and support to continue the good fight. Our donation to Rethink Mental Illness will impact many people’s lives in a meaningful way and help shed light on their darkness. Our small gesture has made a big difference. Thank you.”
The developers of Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice received mostly positive feedback from players, some of which relate to the game’s protagonist, Senua. The game’s impact on those affected with similar conditions to Senua’s were featured in an accolades trailer. The fact that Ninja Theory developed and self-published the title allowed them to not only create a deep, emotionally driven story, but also allowed them the freedom to use the game’s success to help those in need.
Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice is available now on PC and PlayStation 4. Do you think more developers and publishers should follow in the footsteps of Ninja Theory?
