Fans of the ongoing series Game of Thrones were sad to see the show almost at its end. With only two (very short) seasons left to go, people seem to feel a mixture of excitement for everything finally coming together, and heartbroken that once it’s over they will have to go on with their lives, but who wants to do that? Apparently HBO wasn’t ready to break up with Westeros just yet, because it has been confirmed that they are working on 4 brand new projects based in the realm from the beloved books by George R.R. Martin. More than one Game of Thrones spinoff? Yes please!
All that is known about these Game of Thrones spinoff series’ is that they will take place during 4 different time periods in the kingdom of Westeros. The GoT showrunners Dan Weiss and David Benioff are not a part of these shows just yet, but will act as executive producers, alongside Martin, IF any of the shows actually makes it through to become a real series. The writers currently working on the projects include Max Borenstein (Kong: Skull Island), Jane Goldman (Kingsman: The Secret Service), Brian Helgeland (A Knight’s Tale), Carly Way (Mad Men), and of course Martin himself. HBO made a statement addressing that Weiss and Benioff will be taking a break from the Game of Thrones realm, but not to fear because they will be kept updated and they will return.
“Dan Weiss and David Benioff continue to work on finishing up the seventh season and are already in the midst of writing and preparing for the eighth and final season. We have kept them up to date on our plans and they will be attached, along with George R. R. Martin, as executive producers on all projects. We will support them as they take a much-deserved break from writing about Westeros once the final season is complete.”
It’s very exciting news to have not one, but multiple Game of Thrones spinoff series being worked on. In the meantime though, Season 7 is coming on July 16th so we will have our fix very soon!
