George R R Martin Confirms Work On Upcoming Video Game (VIDEO)
HBO’s 8-season run of Game of Thrones saw its end this past week and fans are surely dealing with the show’s epic conclusion in one way or another. The story’s original creator George R R Martin has now also chimed in about the ‘Song of Ice and Fire’ adaptation, the author teasing what’s next for him in the future; which apparently includes work on an upcoming video game.
“I’ve consulted on a video game out of Japan,” Martin simply revealed on his blog. This confirmation, while innocuous on its own, fuels recent rumors of his goings-ons in the gaming medium, namely a new project from Dark Souls and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice developer FromSoftware. While neither Martin or the game studio have yet confirmed any such collaboration, there’s been plenty to suggest it could very well be real.
The rumor originated with YouTube channel Spawn Wave back in March, their video (seen above) surmising the Game of Thrones author was working on a FromSoftware project. A bit more was recently shared via Gematsu, a source with the site corroborating the project’s existence as well as it’s reported development as an open-world title. The game (known internally as “GR”) is said to have been in development for the past three years as a collaboration between George R R Martin and Sekiro director Hidetaka Miyazaki.
As per Gematsu’s source, all is expected to be officially revealed at Microsoft’s upcoming E3 conference, where we’ll find out once and for all whether this George R R Martin and FromSoftware partnership is actually happening. With evidence stacking up, this unknown project would appear to be increasingly likely. However as with any rumors or leaks, it’s best to keep clinging to those pinches of salt, at least until an official announcement is made.
