Gears Tactics Is Still Happening Despite E3 Absence (VIDEO)
It was last year’s E3 when Microsoft unveiled three new big entries in the Gears of War franchise, Gears 5, Gears Pop!, and Gears Tactics. Two of the trio have since been followed up with several updates, including a long-awaited release date and a decidedly Terminatorous DLC for Gears 5. One announcement that’s seen lacking updates over the the last 12 months is Gears Tactics, though it appears that doesn’t very well spell the game’s demise.
According to The Coalition studio head Rod Fergusson, Gears Tactics is still very much in development despite its absence at 2019’s E3. As the shooter series’ fifth main entry is coming in only a few months’ time, Fergusson suggests Microsoft would reasonably want to streamline focus for its recent showcase. Though this unfortunately meant Gears Tactics being nixed, Fergusson did tease the game will eventually “have its time in the sun.”
Because the focus is on Gears 5 with 3 months to launch. Tactics will have its time in the sun

Fans’ questioning where Gears Tactics has been is understandable, especially as the game’s initial showcase teased a pretty interesting twist to the turn-based strategy genre. The PC-focused title was premised as taking place 12 years before the first Gears of War, focusing on a new customizable squad, and retaining the mainline games’ signature cinematic gameplay and epic boss battles.
Gears Tactics is confirmed for release for PC and has no current release date.
