Games Done Quick Announces Hurricane Harvey Relief Charity Livestream – Now Accepting Submissions

Hurricane Harvey Relief

The proliferation of live streaming has come to be a big part of gamer culture in recent years and one of the most positive ways it has impacted both gamer culture and the world at large has been the practice of charity livestreams. One such famed organizer of charity livestreams has been the Speed Demos Archive with their Games Done Quick series, in which speed runners perform various attempts at timed record playthroughs of games to raise money for noble causes. Now, to aid the Hurricane Harvey relief efforts, a special Games Done Quick event is coming very soon.

Games Done Quick shared the announcement of the Harvey Relief Done Quick marathon seen above on their official Twitter account. Starting this Friday, September 1st at 8 P.M. EDT through Sunday, September 3rd at 8 P.M. EDT on their official Twitch channel. A specific charity that supports the relief response to Hurricane Harvey has not been chosen yet, but the team is looking into local charities in the Houston area and is expected to select one before the marathon begins on Friday.

Games Done Quick has also opened this stream for speedrunner submissions looking to perform a speedrun during the livestream on their channel. A Google Forum has been made by the team listing the requirements of potential candidates and an application for them to fill out. It is good to see such a fruitful gaming community give back yet again in such a timely manner to communities very much in need. We here at Don’t Feed the Gamers wish them a very successful stream.
