Several Game of Thrones Actors Talk About How They Feel About Online Leaks (Spoiler Free)
After a wait that lasted over a year, Game of Thrones finally kicked off their season 7 premiere as the show begins to dwindle into the series finale with only 2 short seasons left to go. The premiere episode was outstanding, eliciting a lot of strong reactions from the general fanbase and us here at DFTG. Fans are finally beginning to witness what took 7 seasons to accomplish – the characters are making their life-altering moves and ‘winter is here’. With so many huge plot points coming to a head, it’s understandable that the crew, including the Game of Thrones actors, are excited to show off their hard work but in this day and age, the internet often gives away many secrets before their time. Some of the actors from the show, including Snow, Brienne, and the elusive Little Finger, recently sat down for an interview to talk about how the land of spoilers impacts their own work and what their thoughts are on the endless cycle of paparazzi, leaks, and endless speculation.
Jon Snow may nothing ‘nothing’ but his real-life counterpart Kit Harington knows that unfortunately, there’s not much to be done about the intrusion. This is what he had to say during the EW interview,
I get so angry about it like we all do. Even some publications I would think better of using them. There’s nothing you can do about it. People for some reason want to spoil things for other people and, hopefully, most people don’t look at the stuff. For those that do, it’s so easy to slip up and see something you don’t want to see.”
Whether it is those trolls that scoure comment sections on popular pages deliberately with the intent to spoil, or paparazzi set photos published in news outlets, there are many ways that shows, games, and movies can be spoiled for the general public. Whereas Harington saw both sides, Brienne of Tarth’s actress Gwendoline Christie understands the drive to know,
It’s the world we live in and people are very curious and excited about the show. I love the element of surprise. There’s something wonderfully child-like about receiving something you didn’t expect and the more your favorite TV show and films that can be protected the better. But I understand people are excited.”
Little Finger’s actor, Adian Gillen, took every approach himself to make sure not to contribute to the world of spoilers, “You think about all of the work you do,” he told EW, “I’d never say anything to anybody – even my closest family members. I take security very seriously. Maybe that’s just the Littlefinger in me.” We’re sure there’s a joke in there somewhere, but it is interesting to see the spectrum of thought for the showrunners regarding the issue of set knowledge being accessible prior to the big show premiere.
Though there have been leaks in the past, it still didn’t stop season 7 from kicking off to an enthralling start.
