For Honor Documentary Now Available On Netflix (VIDEO)

As For Honor continues its roll-out of regular updates and new Heroes, its easy to forget how far the game has come since it originally launched. However, it appears the game’s journey to release was no picnic either as revealed in Playing Hard, a new For Honor documentary that recently went live on streaming service Netflix.

Following Creative Director for the game Jason VandenBerghe, Playing Hard chronicles For Honor’s four-year development spanning from conception to release. Per its official description, the film  “offers unprecedented access to a highly secret world where a few gamers/designers are shaping what has now become the biggest entertainment industry in the world.” The film promises viewers will “witness the human theatre involved in creating and launching a major video game.” Check out the trailer below.

Though the action-packed battles of For Honor have a pretty particular audience, Playing Hard looks like it could be an interesting watch for anyone curious about the gaming industry. The movie promises a transparent look at AAA game development, one devoid of interference from Ubisoft as promised by the movie’s website. As detailed here, attaining such final cut freedom was also a process in and of itself.

But after several months of shooting, the director’s access to For Honor ‘s production floor was revoked. It took many months and discussions for Ubisoft to reverse its decision and give the documentary’s production team carte blanche. The documentary team was under non-disclosure agreements to ensure that no details were made public before the game was launched.”

Playing Hard is streaming now on Netflix.
