Final Fantasy XV: Comrades Releasing Today As Standalone Title

Ever since its release a little over a year ago, the Final Fantasy XV multiplayer expansion ‘Comrades’ has grown into an enjoyable and immersive experience for fans that wanted to explore the world of Eos with their friends. Now, with development coming to a halt on most of the previously announced DLC episodes for FFXV, Square Enix has announced that as of today, FFXV: Comrades will be available to play as a standalone title.

Square Enix made the announcement earlier today over on the official Final Fantasy XV Twitter account, revealing that the multiplayer expansion is becoming a standalone game later today. Those that already own the FFXV season pass will be able to download and play the new content for free. Those that have yet to purchase the season pass will likely be able to purchase Comrades for around $20, the same price as the multiplayer expansion when the game was attached to FFXV. The tweet can be seen below, which includes the specific release window:

For those that have yet to test out FFXV: Comrades, the multiplayer expansion puts players into the shoes of the Kingsglaive roughly six months after the conclusion of the events of the main game. The Kingsglaive are tasked with assisting in the restoration and protection of the kingdom of Lucis, which is brought about chiefly by collecting meteor shards by playing cooperatively through the missions. Square Enix hasn’t been particularly forthcoming with what Comrades players can expect in terms of new features and content, though the publisher will likely reveal new details about it once the game has officially separated from FFXV.

Final Fantasy XV is now available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
