Fallout 76: How It’s Similar To Battle Royale
Reclamation Day has arrived for those who have pre-ordered Bethesda’s upcoming online-only adventure in the Wasteland. With the B.E.T.A. having gone live, fans are excited to jump into Fallout 76 and start knocking out some exploration. That said, there is still a bounty of goodies and features to discover in the game, including one that sounds an awful lot like Battle Royale.
While Fallout 76 doesn’t contain a full-fledged BR mode with 100 players duking it out until only one remains, the Hunter/Hunted mechanic does seemingly bring a bit of the popular genre to West Virginia. We’ve touched on griefing before, which will surely find its way into the experience. However, Bethesda has implemented features to put players off from the act of griefing, but if explores choose to go that route, that’s when the mechanic comes in.
“Once at least four players have joined the Hunter/Hunted Radio queue, participants will each be assigned another specific Hunter to track and assassinate,” Bethesda said in a recent guide posted to their website. “You are then free to seek and destroy your prey in a large area, with a one-hour time limit. Don’t get too cocky, however, because your own assassin may be hiding around the next bend, and your target may decide fight back.”
“Over time, the Hunt area’s size will decrease, forcing you closer to your current victim and assassin,” they continued. “Upon killing your target, you’ll be assigned to the player they were tracking, and so on, until just one Hunter remains.” We don’t know about you, but a last-man standing situation featuring a shrinking area and rewards those who get the job done sounds just like Battle Royale. Of course, as stated above, it won’t be the giant battles we see in titles like PUBG, Fortnite, Black Ops 4’s Blackout, and more.
Speaking of awarding players, Bethesda said, “Win or lose, taking down at least one other Hunter will award you with some Caps and XP. These rewards will also increase based on the number of kills you achieve, up to a maximum of six kills.” Sure, griefing is dirty business, but it looks like there could be an upside to being on either side of the situation. Either way, enter those predicaments at your own risk.
Fallout 76 is set to arrive on November 14th for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The B.E.T.A. is currently available on Xbox One, with PC and PS4 versions arriving at a later date.
