Fallout 76: Modding Is Coming, But “It’s Going To Take A While”

Fallout 76 Modding

One thing that Bethesda’s titles are well known for is the extensive mod support. The community for such activities is vibrant and full of impressive improvements and glorious memes. That said, with the impending release of Fallout 76 just around the corner, many have been wondering when modding will find a home in the online wasteland.

Project Lead Jeff Gardiner recently stated during a round table discussion that mod support will be featured in Fallout 76, as will community severs, but it’s going to take a bit of time. “We love the modding community and we’ve been supporting them for decades,” Gardiner said. “We do plan to launch private worlds in the future where people can modify their servers as they see fit”

“We 100% want to support [community servers]. That has been my goal with this game since day one,” he continued. It’s good to see that modding has always been in the mix for the online-only experience. After all, it’s the first of its kind in the franchise, and we imagine the developer has had their hands full with focusing on the game itself.

Pete Hines also chimed in about how long it will take for these features to make their way to Fallout 76. “By the way, we should be clear, [this won’t happen] all that close to launch,” he said. “It ain’t happening a couple of months after launch, it’s gonna take some amount of time to spin up your private servers to support whatever mods you want to run. It’s going to take a while.”

Well, however long it takes, we can’t wait to see Thomas the Tank Engine in all of his glory wandering around the West Virginia wasteland. Fallout 76 is set to arrive on November 14th for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
