Fallout 76 Beta Launch Will Not Work As Planned, Says Bethesda
In a little more than a month, many Fallout fans will be participating in the Fallout 76 Beta Test, which will be available for those that pre-order the game. This beta will be special, as not only will essentially include the full game and allow for transferable save files, but it also will apparently be quite crucial in Bethesda’s finishing touches on the game’s performance. Now, Bethesda’s Pete Hines has spoken out about the Fallout 76 beta launch, and how he expects for many things to not go according to plan.
Bethesda Senior Vice President of Marketing and Communications Pete Hines was recently interviewed by IGN at Gamescom last week. According to Hines, Bethesda is fully aware that their beta test for Fallout 76 is going to fall short of perfection, which is in many ways their intention with the exercise. As Hines puts it:
It’s interesting and exciting, but I’m also going into this having done this enough to know this is definitely not going to go perfectly. There’s just no universe…nobody’s ever done it and like, ‘Oh, zero problems. There’s not a single thing that went wrong.’ We just have to be ready for that. That’s in part what the beta is. Break it Early, Test the Application.
Bethesda has said before that they intend to utilize player feedback from the beta and implement changes based around it to tailor the game toward’s what fans are demanding. To some extent, the developer is allowing the game to be fluid and adaptable to change, with Hines comparing it to a tactical combat strategy, saying: “I think we are on the right course, and we’ll be prepared as we can be, but no battle plan survives contact with the enemy. Ours certainly isn’t going to either, but we are fully aware of what we signed up for, are committed to we’re going to be quick to respond, quick to adapt, and do all the things we think we need to make it a great game.”
Hopefully the Fallout 76 beta launch isn’t a nuclear disaster, but even if it is, there will be plenty of time for Bethesda to repair any lasting errors before the official launch on November 14th for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
