Fallout 5 Single Player Campaign Confirmed, Says Todd Howard
To say Bethesda rocked their E3 2018 showcase would be an understatement, and this may especially ring true for fans. From a live performance to celebrate Rage 2, the long-awaited announcement of The Elder Scrolls VI, a new Prey DLC and much more. Of course, among them were news for the Fallout franchise. Although 76 wasn’t quite what s0me were expecting, Bethesda’s executive producer, Todd Howard, has officially confirmed Fallout 5. In fact, it will primarily focus on single-player campaign.
Howard spoke to the assortment of media inquiries during this year’s Gamelab regarding several aspects of the sequel including improvements and goals for the game. After all the commotion of 76, he’s happy to share their visions for Fallout 5. During the interview, one reporter asked if multiplayer would become a mainstay feature for future Bethesda titles, especially since they’ve just revealed sequels for typically single-player experiences.
For those games, we want to keep them as single player. That is what our focus is going to be. If they have some social aspect we haven’t designed yet, you’ll see. But we treat each of them each as their own thing.”
In other words, the studio’s focus isn’t just multiplayer. They just want to invest some energy into larger projects that include that particular feature. As for Fallout 76, Howard reveals that they’ve made vast improvements based on previous entries in the franchise. He also dispelled any rumors of their use of an old generation game engine, Gamebryo. As the developer moves forward, they want to show fans the best they have and evolve with the times.
We wanted every aspect to be better. From the graphics to how the controls work, the gunplay, enemy AI, overlapping quests. In Fallout 4 we tried so many new things and redid so many things we had before, we took our lessons in how you strike that balance going into Fallout 76.
We improved the hit detection for Fallout 76, it feels much better but you won’t notice unless you go back to Fallout 4 and compare those two games. There are a lot of things we redid for Fallout 76 that I don’t know if the people will notice.”
This is might good news for fans of Bethesda out there! As a fellow devotee, Howard and company’s transparency for the future of their games is most certainly welcome.
