The Elder Scrolls Online Free ‘Homestead’ Update is Live + How to Get Started

Homestead

The Elder Scrolls Online free ‘Homestead’ update is now live and ready for players to realize their inner interior decorating and crafting potential! The update is available for Mac and PC. Players all over Tamriel can decorate, craft, and purchase furnishings of all kinds, including: books, bookcases, beds, light fixtures, plants, shrubs, and much more. There are miscellaneous items such as sacks, crates, paintings, and wheelbarrows among others.

While the update itself is free, the homes themselves are not. As you may have already guessed, it will take a great deal of gold. However, that also entirely depends on which home you wish to take. There is the ability to purchase them with crowns, if you are so inclined. There is the option to buy your dwellings furnished or unfurnished, as well. So, ‘how do I get started and what types of homes are there’, you ask?

First things first, there are 39 housing options available for players. There’s also home permissions you can customize for friends and guild mates, too. At any point, you can buy a home via the crown store, but if you want to work for it with in-game currency – you can do that too!

Here are the types of homesteads available:

  1. Inn Rooms
  2. Apartments
  3. Small, Medium, and Large Homes
  4. Manors
  5. Unique Crown Store Homes

From personal experience and venturing within the crown store, there is a manor called Serenity Falls Estate that costs 12,500 Crowns (furnished), or 3,775,000 gold. Dependent upon which combination of crown packs you decide to buy, that can cost you anywhere between 90 to 120 dollars.

You can get your first home for free, but it is an honest-to-goodness “humble abode”. Through a Homestead tutorial quest titled “A Friend in Need”, players get their very own inn room. All you need to do is find a Wood Elf Housing Broker named Canthion, by looking for the “Housing Brochure” in the bank, at any of the major non-DLC zone cities. Or, go to the crown store under the Featured tab. Don’t want to visit a bank? No problem! Players can find him at these locations too!

There are homes all around Tamriel, where you can just walk in and check out the interior and asking price, by pressing F5. For more thorough information on Homestead basics, check out the Elder Scrolls Online blog post!
