EA Sings Nintendo’s Praises – They “Force us to Think Differently”

The Nintendo Switch is set to launch later this year, and it is highly anticipated, with good reason. Many game developers and publishers are supporting it, including Bethesda, Activision, Ubisoft, and others. These companies will be choosing the games they create or port to the Nintendo Switch very carefully, each with their own reasons. EA has now come out saying that they too will be getting behind it with a new FIFA game, explaining why they are partnering with Nintendo on the new console.

EA Executive Vice President Patrick Soderlund had this to say with a recent interview:

“What I like about Nintendo is that they come to the table with a slightly different approach. They’ve done that in the past to great success, and sometimes not so much, but I think unless you’re willing to think about something unconventional, it’s going to be hard to break ground. Nintendo forces us to think differently.”

Soderlund talked about how EA will be bringing a new FIFA game to the Switch, as it is their biggest brand that spans the largest age demographic, allowing them to reach the widest audience possible. You can’t fault this thinking, as FIFA is a popular series, worth billions of dollars to the company, so it only makes sense that they would choose this franchise. But this doesn’t mean that EA won’t bring other games to the Switch, Soderlund teasing the possibility of more titles at a later date.

We are not announcing anything [else] yet, but you can expect us to be there once the platform launches and takes off. We have the benefit of being a platform agnostic company, we will be at whatever platform the consumers are. New hardware is always a positive in our industry. It allows us to push forward.

The Nintendo Switch launches March 3, priced at $300, and is so popular that pre-orders have already sold out in most retailers. We will update the list accordingly.
