EA Confirms Next Battlefield Game Set to Arrive in 2018

The incredibly popular Battlefield 1 was released into the world back in 2016. Fans were excited to see the franchise go in the direction of the Great War, and with 21 million players worldwide, it’s hard to image the title losing steam anytime soon. However, it just might because EA has confirmed that the next Battlefield game is on its way with a debut set for 2018.

In a recent financial call, EA’s CEO, Andrew Wilson, stated that the company will “continue delivering for our Battlefield fans, including the next great game in the franchise.” People still play older titles in the BF-verse, so there’s no chance that the World War 1-themed IP will lose the wind in its sails drastically. This, of course, is completely dependent on what the next Battlefield game will be based on and how EA plans to continue support. It was also mentioned that they will focus on “advancing the state-of-the-art in games for players on every platform.” This includes “delivering new and compelling ways to discover, engage and enjoy games.”

The fact that the next Battlefield title will be arriving in 2018 means that it has likely been in development for some time. With Wilson stating that it is the “richest Battlefield experience” yet, one has to wonder what the title is even going to be about. Will they hold strong on the WWI setting, or will they move on to WWII? If they do that, are they potentially hurting their chances at success due to CoD: WWII arriving later this year? Are they going to keep going back even further? Only time will tell.

However, EA is still going strong with support for BF1. The In The Name of the Tsar DLC is set to arrive later this year, while the company is also planning to provide more information on an eSports mode and new maps at Gamescom 2017 next month. Considering Wilson was confident enough to make the claim above, EA could possibly even have something of a teaser arriving in the relatively near future.
