Dying Light 2 Focuses On The “Power Of Choice” And Human Interaction, Says Developer
At E3 this year, fans got a first look at the coming sequel Dying Light 2. With a larger map and horrifying cultural decline, fans may have been expecting a more over the top zombie experience. According to Lead Game Designer Tymon Smektala’s interview with AusGamers, the game is more about choices and human interaction than zombies. He said:
[One of the] most important features of the game is the narrative sandbox and the power of choice; choices and consequences. And as you play the game you’ll face many difficult dilemmas and the choices you make through gameplay or through story will change or transform the world around you. We created this non-linear narrative.”
Smektala goes on to explain that Dying Light 2 is not really a zombie game. With a new mechanic that urges zombies into the darkness during the day, the living can get out and explore more without fear of heavy undead encounters. The reason for this makes Dying Light 2 a much more interesting game. The lead designer continued on saying:
First of all, this allowed us to build a part of the city where you really get to encounter humans. You get to work with them; see how they would behave in a situation like this. You know, it’s an extreme situation: technology is gone, civilisation is gone… we didn’t have as many dynamic encounters [with humans in the first game]. So the day is for the humans, but the night is for the infected and this creates a lot of gameplay opportunity.”
These new aspects will likely make Dying Light 2 a much more immersive and engaging game than its previous entry. While there is no release date yet, fans can expect the title to come out for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC sometime next year.
