Divinity: Original Sin 2 Console Mod Support Has "Not Been Ruled Out," Says Developer

Divinity: Original Sin 2 represents the latest great entry in the series from developer Larian Studios, with the title featuring a hugely satisfying story, immersive gameplay, and a diverse cast of characters. The game had a hugely successful release on PC last year, and as such fans of the franchise are looking forward to the highly-anticipated upcoming release of Divinity: Original Sin 2 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. With excitement for the title building, fans have begun to wonder what aspects of the game will carry over from the PC version, with one of said concerns being that of mod support.

While it has been confirmed that mod support capabilities will not launch with the console versions of the game, that doesn’t mean Larian Studios isn’t still working on it. In a recent interview with the folks over at DualShockers, Larian Studios product manager discussed the possibility of implementing mod support in the future. According to Kelly, the developer has “looked into” getting mod support onto the console versions of the game, and that it has not been “ruled out just yet.”

Divinity: Original Sin 2 has an impressive community dedicated to creating mods for the game, and as such it would be quite the boon to see mod support come to both PS4 and Xbox One. Unfortunately, Kelly did not have a timeline for when we can potentially expect it to be implemented. It will also likely depend on how positive the reception is for the game on consoles. Here’s the breakdown of Divinity: Original Sin 2 for those that have yet to pick it up:

  • Who will you be? A flesh-eating Elf, an Imperial Lizard or an Undead, risen from the grave? Discover how the world reacts differently to who – or what – you are.
  • It’s time for a new Divinity! Gather your party and develop relationships with your companions. Blast your opponents in deep, tactical, turn-based combat. Use the environment as a weapon, use height to your advantage, and manipulate the elements themselves to seal your victory.
  • Ascent as the god that Rivellon so desperately needs. Explore the vast and layered world of Rivellon alone or in a party of up to 4 players in drop-in/drop-out cooperative play. Go anywhere, unleash your imagination, and explore endless ways to interact with the world. Beyond Rivellon, there’s more to explore in the brand-new PvP and Game Master modes.

Divinity: Original Sin 2 is now available for PC, with a PS4 and Xbox One release date set for August 31st, 2018.
