In the wonderfully glorious digital age, it can often be difficult for a game to set itself above the rest. It can be even more difficult when the market is saturated with the type of game you are releasing into it. Developer Sloclap and publisher Devolver Digital(Broforce, The Talos Principle) are willing to take that risk with the release of Absolver. After being revealed earlier this year, something seemed a bit off about Absolver. What we saw was a multiplayer action RPG…that didn’t involve guns. Instead, Absolver revolves around the use of martial arts. It’s almost as if someone combined Street Fighter and any of the countless open world RPG’s, while also peppering in a bit of the fighting style of Dark Souls. Sounds like one hell of a combination. If the following description from Steam is any indication, this is going to be one fun game.

“In the ruins of the fallen Adal Empire, you awaken with a mysterious mask on your face, and faint recollections of an esoteric ceremony. Freeing you from hunger, thirst, and even death, the mask is the creation of the Guides, the rulers of these lands, who have placed you here to determine whether you are worthy of becoming part of the elite corps of Absolvers. As you wander these forsaken lands, encountering other Prospects like you, you will learn new combat styles, acquire weapons, gear and armor, and build a team of warriors with whom to fight side by side in Arenas of combat.”

Absolver will feature a fluid real-time combat system where it is up to the player to decided how to approach a battle. One must use strategy by choosing movements carefully to ensure success, whether it is 1v1 or 3v3. Players will also be able to customize their style and flow. Weapon choice, combat style, and how you arrange the cards in your Combat Deck will go a long way if you find the right combination for you. Absolver will also have a rich online narrative, combined PvP and PvE, all of which will help you in joining the elite and becoming an Absolver peacekeeper. Absolver will be coming first to PS4 with exclusive content and PC in 2017. It is unspecified when/if Xbox One will be seeing the title. The new trailer, which debuted at PSX, can be seen below.
