Def Jam Teases New Game On Twitter

Def Jam Vendetta

For the past couple of months, Def Jam Recordings has been dropping hints at a new game in their franchise. Nothing has been confirmed, but series fans can’t help but get excited. It’s been a long 11 years since the franchise’s last title, Def Jam: Icon.

Def Jam Recordings posted a pair of hypothetical questions on their Twitter relating to a new game. In June, they asked who should be on the cover if Def Jam Vendetta were to make a comeback. Then yesterday, Def Jam posted an image asking fans which city they’d want to see for a new Fight For game. The cover rapper should reflect the chosen city, of course. Pairing T.I. with Atlanta would be my top pick.

They specifically used the word “hypothetically” in all caps, so this is could all just be for social media. Maintain a healthy amount of skepticism until further notice. Still, the tweets have combined for over 10,000 retweets and 20,000 likes. That’s a fair indication that a new franchise installment could net Def Jam a massive profit.

Def Jam Vendetta and Fight for New York may not have the fame of Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter, but their fans remain loyal. One might say that they’ve achieved something of a cult status since then. Def Jam: Icon was the weakest of the series, but it was by no means a bad game. With the right developers and team, it’s not hard to imagine a return to glory for the franchise.

If the record label needs help figuring out fighter strength, I would recommend using this handy guide for most rappers. DMX, obviously, should be as OP as possible. Drake, however, should probably be on the other side of that line.

Do you think a new Def Jam game is on the way? If so, which fighters do you want to see? Sound off in the comments, and keep the conversation going on Twitter and on Facebook!
