Dead Island 2 has been in development limbo for what seems like a very long time. In fact, it has been six years since the sequel was officially revealed, but the title has experienced quite a few bumps in the road. However, not all hope is lost as the publisher has confirmed that the game is still happening.

Deep Silver recently took to Twitter to let fans know that Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell is available for free via Xbox Games With Gold for a limited time, but that didn’t stop some fans from asking about Dead Island 2. When one such fan brought up the sequel, another person chimed in to tell them to “give it up” and “it’s not coming.” That’s when Deep Silver stepped in to offer a bit of hope, saying “We wouldn’t be so sure about that.”

When the doubter returned to make sure Deep Silver was not providing them with a bit of false hope, the publisher truly sealed the deal. “We’re not quite ready to talk about the latest Dead Island just yet, but when we do, you’ll see it here,” the publisher said.

Of course, we have absolutely no idea when Dead Island 2 is going to be released, much less talked about again. It was revealed last year that development had been handed over to Sumo Digital, who recently made Sackboy: A Big Adventure. However, that announcement was made over a year ago, and there really hasn’t been much since. Needless to say, we still likely have some time to go before anything is officially mentioned about the upcoming sequel.
