Cyberpunk 2077 Crunch Addressed By CD Projekt RED Head
Crunch is something in the gaming industry that has been coming to light more and more over recent years, with awful stories coming out about some rather unacceptable working practices. That said, it would appear that the Cyberpunk 2077 devs will be facing crunch until the launch of the game, and the studio head has now addressed the situation.
Following the recent report from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier about Cyberpunk 2077 devs being ordered to work 6-day weeks until launch, CDPR head Adam Badowski sent out a tweet to address the situation. These last 6 weeks are our final sprint on a project we’ve all spent much of our lives on,” he said. “Something we care for deeply. The majority of the team understands that push, especially in light of the fact that we’ve just sent the game to cert and every day brings us visibly closer to shipping a game we want to be proud of.”

The CDPR head then went on to note how the Cyberpunk 2077 devs aren’t simply being demanded to work extra for free. “This is one of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make, but everyone is well compensated for every extra hour they put in,” Badowski continued. “And, like in recent years, 10% of the annual profit our company generates in 2020 will be split directly among the team.”
No matter which way you cut it, it’s a pretty sticky situation. Crunch should not be normal in the gaming industry, or a thing at all. It especially doesn’t look good as it’s an act of Badowski going back on his word. I don’t speak for every fan, but I wouldn’t be mad if another delay were to happen if it meant the devs would be able to avoid crunch.
As it stands, Cyberpunk 2077 is set to arrive on November 19th for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Keep it tuned to Don’t Feed the Gamers as this story develops, and for other gaming goodness going on right now, check out the following:
