The first of October is unofficially the day when all the spooky spirits and themes come out to play. While the Japanese video game industry is known worldwide for franchises like Pokemon and Persona, there’s an entire list of horror games that they’re known for as well – one of them being the Corpse Party series. Just in time for everyone to get in the festive holiday spirits, XSEED announces Corpse Party: Blood Drive for PC and Nintendo Switch.

It was announced last year that four Corpse Party titles were heading to PC, but Blood Drive has been made an exception for the hybrid Nintendo console. Check out the announcement trailer below:

Hopefully Corpse Party: Blood Drive is received well enough for the entire series to come to the Nintendo Switch! Not sure what this particular iteration is about? Here’s the general synopsis of Blood Drive:

The disturbing events that the survivors of Kisaragi Academy’s class 2-9 encountered are theirs alone to mourn after the memories and records of those lost in the halls of Heavenly Host have been wiped from the face of the earth. Only the power rested within the pages of the Book of Shadows could reverse this miserable fate, however Ayumi Shinozaki’s misguided attempts to employ its power claimed yet another victim, and the book was forever lost in the chaos.

Obsessed with figuring out a way to bring her friends back, Ayumi returns to Heavenly Host after a tip that leads her to believe the Book of Shadows still resides within. In one last attempt to redeem her past mistakes, will Ayumi be successful in her desperate mission of redemption?”

Corpse Party began in 1996 when Team GrisGris released Blood Covered in 1996, which was followed by an enhanced remake in 2006 for PC, then Repeated Fear in 2010 for the PSP and iOS. It wasn’t until 2011 that North America received its first Corpse Party experience however. Since then, then it’s been a relatively well-received series seeing as one of their latest developments, Blood Drive, is heading to the Switch!

If you’re a fan of horror games and Japanese RPGs, this franchise is a fantastic way to launch the spooky October gaming playlist! What other horror titles are on your list this month?
