There’s Already a Cool New 2DS XL Special Edition on the Way Shortly After Nintendo’s Announcement
Fans of the handheld Nintendo gaming system have had some pretty good news lately. With the recent announcement of new versions of the 2DS XL, it would be surprising for another announcement to follow right on its heels. Japan got one such surprise as it was announced that a 2DS XL special edition is arriving for fans to enjoy.
The new 2DS XL special edition will be a Dragon Quest themed system with a black and gray Liquid Metal Slime exterior. When closed, the top of the handheld game reveals a little happy slime face. The casing also features silhouettes of slimes and weapons from Dragon Quest. Check out this sleek little design in the gallery below:
Those who purchase the new 2DS XL special edition will also be treated to Dragon Quest themes for their system menus. The system will also come with a copy of Dragon Quest XI to complete the ensemble. While the system won’t be packing the same 3D punch, it’s still coming out in style.
Given the popularity of Dragon Quest in Japan versus the rest of the world, it is possible that this 2DS XL special edition will have to be imported if players want to get their hands on it. This version of the system releases July 29th in Japan for 22,480 yen (roughly $202). The 2DS and XL respectively will have all of the playing power of the 3DS but will lack the 3D capability. The new system launches June 15th in New Zeland and Australia with a US/UK release date of July 28th.
