Former ‘Doctor Who’ Companion Clara Oswald May Be Returning for the Christmas Special
With Peter Capaldi already having announced his upcoming departure from the titular role in the long running science-fiction show ‘Doctor Who’, rampant speculation and theories on who would replace the Doctor have circled around the internet. With three episodes down, season 10 of Capaldi’s run as the Doctor has so far shaped up to arguably be his best season, so it would be beneficial to put down the tin foil hats and simply enjoy his swan song as the Doctor. As previously reported, he has already filmed his death/regeneration scene which is slated to air sometime near the end of the season, possibly during this year’s Christmas Special. According to recent rumors, actor David Bradley may be portraying the 1st Doctor during the Christmas Special as part of a special send-off to Capaldi. This isn’t where the rumors stop, though. A statement found on Twitter reported that Eddie’s Diner has been booked by the BBC for two days of filming this July, which also happens to be when Capaldi will be filming the rest of the Christmas special. This all points to the possibility that former companion Clara Oswald may be making an appearance.

As some fans may remember, Eddie’s Diner is actually the outside form of Clara and Ashildr’s (Maisie Williams) TARDIS. The last time we saw the inside of the restaurant was in the Season 9 finale, “Hell Bent”, after the Doctor’s entire memory of Clara was erased. That said, it will be interesting to see how show runner, Steven Moffat, will handle Clara’s possible return. It would be amazing to see the Doctor’s memories of long-time companion Clara Oswald return, though it certainly be very ‘Doctor Who-like’ if he saw her one last time and didn’t recognize her. There has been no confirmation from BBC or Jenna Coleman as to whether or not Clara Oswald will be returning to see the Doctor off. For now, fans of Clara’s stint as the ‘impossible girl’ can only hope for the best.
