If you love coffee and heavy metal as much as I do, you’re in for a treat. Mega Cat Studios is the company responsible for creating the couch co-op beat ’em up that requires a bounty of caffeine to take down the Smurglians. Coffee Crisis will offer players plenty of opportunity to enjoy 2D glory while caffeinated out of their minds.

Coffee Crisis was originally released for the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive, but not as long ago as many might expect. While February 24, 2017 brought the title to cartridges, it was recently announced that the game will be making its way to Steam, Switch, and Xbox One at some point this year. Coffee Crisis is an neo-rogue brawler that puts you in the shoes of the only baristas on Earth with enough heavy metal in their veins to fend off an alien assault. Play solo or join up with a friend to fight across eight unique locations ranging from your Coffee House HQ to the far reaches of outer space. Go up against an army of wild alien enemies, and the humans they have brainwashed with a variety of weapons, special moves, suplexes, and coffee!

The Smurglian race has come to Earth and they’re not leaving until they steal our three most prized commodities: heavy metal, free Wifi, and our coffee. Crunch through fistfuls of alien meat as you stop their invasion, and enjoy random modifiers to the enemies and action on each playthrough. Sounds fantastic, right? It’s unknown as to when the game will be expanding to new platforms, but the Steam page is showing May 2018. We can also expect it to arrive on Xbox One and Nintendo Switch at the same time as PC.
