Classic Golf Game Hidden Within Nintendo Switch Firmware

With the Switch only having been released in March, there are likely many secrets still hidden within the confines of the portable console. One such secret was unearthed by a data miner over the weekend when they stumbled upon a folder titled “flog”. The contents revealed an emulator for the NES and a single game, the 1984 classic Golf.

As if this wasn’t enough of a find, it appears that the classic Golf is also completely integrated for Joy-Con support. This would mark the first Virtual Console game to offer such support for the system. The possibilities, if this claim is legitimate, could likely be endless as more and more classics find their way to the console’s emulator.

It appears that the folder has been noted before, with Golf having been touted about by users all along. It may be that Nintendo has plans for backward compatible classics, however, the company has yet to make those known to the public. For now, miners and software gurus will have to tool around and see if they can add games to the emulator on their own.

As it stands, there seems to be no way to launch the title from the standard graphics interface. It is speculated that a sequence of button pushes may open the folder, but it remains a secret if so. There is, as always, the possibility that the game and its folder is a fabrication, even if the miner has a history of legitimate finds. Ultimately, until someone else also finds the folder, fans will have to make due with what they have.
