WATCH: Cancelled Silent Hills P.T. Sees New Life On PC Thanks To Fan Remakes

Fan-Made PT

When the reboot of the Silent Hill franchise was announced, many gamers were excited. With Kojima Productions at the helm under the guise of 7780s Studio, there was no denying that something awesome was coming. However, when Konami up and nixed the project, it set the gaming world ablaze and was widely regarded as a terrible decision. This was rather evident considering the cancelled Silent Hills P.T. (playable teaser) had made everyone beyond excited for the reboot.

Now that a few years have passed since one of the biggest upsets in recent gaming history, it looks like some fans are taking it upon themselves to keep the dream alive. In a recent video posted by YouTube user SmoggyChips, we see their recreation of the cancelled Silent Hills P.T. using Unreal Engine 4. Needless to say, it is looking to be quite awesome. Check it out for yourself in the video below:

This fan remake is called Corridors and it is currently available to play on PC. Of course, the game is somewhat early in the development process, and it is only the P.T. since the full release never saw the light of day. Thankfully, SmoggyChips seems to be committed to giving players what they desire in terms of a playable remake of the cancelled Silent Hills P.T. In their most recent update, they added the following:

  • Changed the player headbob animation
  • Added some Cockroaches, they are idle atm
  • Added environment light from the outside
  • Added two new suprises
  • Changed the lighting in level 4.
  • Changed the post process, shadows should look better.

It’s also worth noting that SmoggyChips isn’t the only fan throwing their hat into the ring of recreations. Reddit user LinusPixel took to the /r/SilentHill forum to show off his progress on the remake. Instead of going the Unreal Engine 4 route, they are simply extracting map, animation, and texture files from the original playable trailer, and they are putting them into a new engine. There isn’t much as of right now, but LinusPixel’s remake is currently available to download.

With the rise of two playable remakes, there’s no shortage of horror goodness coming out of the fan community. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for each recreation of the cancelled Silent Hills P.T.
