‘Buffy The Vampire Slayer’ Reboot in Development With Joss Whedon
It appears that Buffy the Vampire Slayer is getting revived – again – for a return to the small screen. Earlier today it was revealed that a reboot to the cult classic show is now in development, with The Hollywood Reporter confirming that Joss Whedon is attached to the show as an executive producer. While there is currently no network attached to the show, 20th Century Fox Television has hired Agents of SHIELD writer Monica Owusu-Breen to write a script for the TV series. The new show will feature a black actress as the leading role, which was made famous by Sarah Michelle Gellar.
Joss Whedon, while on board for the reboot, is admittedly worried about how it will be viewed compared to the original show. “I see a little bit of what I call monkey’s paw in these reboots. You bring something back, and even if it’s exactly as good as it was, the experience can’t be,” he previously said to THR. “You’ve already experienced it, and part of what was great was going through it for the first time.”
You have to meet expectations and adjust it for the climate, which is not easily. Luckily most of my actors still look wonderful, but I’m not worried about them being creaky. I’m more worried about me being creaky as a storyteller. You don’t want that feeling that you should have left before the encore.”
The original Buffy the Vampire Slayer show aired for seven years on the WB, before the company rebranded itself as The CW. The most important takeaway here is that in some way, some form or another, the scooby gang is getting back together, and chances are we’ll be in for a ‘hellmouth’ of a show.
