Bruce Willis Returning For New Die Hard Movie ‘Prequel/Sequel’

Die Hard Movie

Fans of Bruce Willis’ Die Hard films should be pleased to hear that the latest Die Hard movie will feature not one, but two different John McClanes, one of whom is of course being played by Willis himself.  In a recent interview with Deadline, returning director Len Wiseman confirmed that Bruce Willis will be reprising his role as the wrong place/wrong time action hero John McClane.  Though there has been no word on the plot thus far, Wiseman also described the new Die Hard movie as a prequel/sequel that will bounce back and forth between present day John McClane and 1970’s New York John McClane, back when he was still a beat cop.

Since the currently untitled Die Hard movie will be shifting to a 40-ish years younger police officer still ‘in his prime’, casting has officially begun for the actor that will play the young John McClane during these sequences within the movie.  “The right casting for this role is crucial,” said Wiseman.  “Those bare feet have some very big shoes to fill.”  Depending on how events unfold in the past, fans may also be treated to a young version of McClane’s oft-times estranged wife, Holly McClane, though from a story point of view it is unlikely Wiseman would head in this direction.

It will be interesting to see how Len Wiseman handles the 1970’s New York scenes.  Given how the events of the first Die Hard movie unfolded, John McClane was more or less an unknown prior to the events at Nakatomi Tower, which suggests that whatever occurred in the past that brings about the present day events in the new film will do little to affect John or his career.  Hopefully the upcoming Die Hard film will help restore the shine on the franchise, which was diminished following the release of 2013’s A Good Day to Die Hard, which saw John McClane team up with his son, played by Jai Courtney.
