Bethesda Campaigns To #SavePlayer1 At The Game Awards (VIDEO)

#SavePlayer1 At The Game Awards (VIDEO)

Bethesda has a long-standing reputation for offering creative and deep single-player experiences, even as the overall gaming landscape shifts towards online multiplayer. Their most recent title Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus resisted pressure to include a multiplayer mode at all, the developer proudly embracing the unique fun of a solo playthrough. This year’s Game Awards seemed to appreciate Bethesda’s dedication, casually throwing shade at microtransactions as well as cheekily highlighting their cause to #SavePlayer1 in a hilarious video.

In the shenanigan-filled video below, Wonder Woman actress Lynda Carter calls for developers to focus on worthwhile gaming experiences instead of the microtransaction mess many bigger games have adopted. As a show of support for the #SavePlayer1 cause, a number of single player Bethesda titles are being offered at steep discounts, running up to 50% off digitally and at select retailers.

As a part of this hashtagged movement, Bethesda will also donate $100,000 to the Entertainment Software Association Foundation in an effort to fund scholarships for  aspiring game developers. This is supposedly the largest single donation ever received from the organization, and will go a long way to enable the next generation to craft the future of gaming. More information about the ESA Foundation is available on their website.

What do you think? Is Bethesda fighting a losing battle with their #SavePlayer1 campaign, or do those game discounts make a compelling point?
