Atlus and Studio Zero Present Teaser Trailer for Project Re Fantasy – (VIDEO)

Newly created Studio Zero is gearing up for their first game release with a trailer for their current development Project Re Fantasy. The teaser doesn’t feature any gameplay, release date, or expected platforms, and leaves more questions than answers. However, a lot can be taken away from it and the website itself on what this game might be about.

The teams name and tagline, “A Fool’s Journey Begins”, says a lot about what the story could be about while saying very little at the same time. The tagline itself is derived from tarot cards where zero is the “Fool”. The logo itself features what appears to be a person on a journey, with the studios zero displayed heavily. The connections are obvious, and it may even be a playful jab at themselves for the undertaking.

The video above is in Japanese, featuring text and scenery that gives the viewer a feeling of going on a journey through beautiful landscapes and a fantasy setting. Art featured on the page itself gives makes the game feel like a combination of Dungeons and Dragons and Final Fantasy. Most notable are some of the quotes  on the page, which set the tone for Project Re Fantasy.

“This is not “Persona”. This is not “Megami Tensei”. This is the beginning of a new story. It is our deepest desire to present a ‘true journey’ to consumers around the world.”

References to Persona and Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne may be lost on readers until they realize that the team is comprised of members who have all worked on these titles in the past. Director and producer of Studio Zero and Project Re Fantasy, Katsura Hashino, who has worked on Persona and Megami Tensie among other titles, had this to say on the games timetable and platform:

“We haven’t determined yet what platform our new game will be, and I imagine this project will take a long time until completion. But we’ll be working hard at this challenge to truly deliver something new and incredible for all our fans.”

Studio Zero isn’t the first to deliver such an enigmatic teaser so early in the game. Rockstar is becoming famous for it with their tesaers for Red Dead Redemption 2, and previous Grand Theft Auto V teasers. The difference here is that Project Re Fantasy doesn’t have predecessor games to rely on. A notable part of the strategy may be to gather talent and create hype. The website itself has a recruitment section and states they are looking for people to join their team.

With little to go on but beautiful art and a limited video, fans will be left to speculate as to what will come with Project Re Fantasy. The team has a solid background, and working in an RPG genre leaves a lot to the imagination. Questions about as to whether this will be turn based, open world, or something we haven’t seen yet as their site seems to suggest. One thing’s for certain though, this is definitely a title we’re going to keep up with.
