While it’s no great secret that the show American Horror Story has always brought out the willies in the toughest of us, it looks like the latest season of the show is fixing to push those limits by featuring a phobia so common, just the mere mention of the name is enough to scare the pants off people. If clowns were the first thing that came to mind, congratulations! With the official reveal of the series’ latest season title, American Horror Story: Cult has just released a brand new trailer featuring a horde of the creepy bastards and the video does not disappoint in the horrifying atmosphere.

AHS: Cult, the 7th season in the long running series, has been on everyone’s minds over the past several months and with the release of the long awaited trailer, the tone is certainly set for the coming story. Check out the video below to see the terrifying set-up for the coming episodes:

In the trailer, an ominous voices speaks up “Do you ever feel alone? Does it seem like no one really understands you? Do some people just make you sick? We can set you free. We will make you strong. Join us.” With the juxtaposition of the clown imagery behind the voice, swaying in beat to each other’s motions, the tone certainly reflects the previously mentioned political storyline and a possible hive mentality that seems far more sinister than we thought previously. Could the story really include a Purge-like storyline with government influence spiraling out of control? Does the term “cult” in the season’s title mean that there could be a major take-over politically and socially for the series’ main characters?

It could be that the singular clown with blue hair in the swarm of copy cats stands for an attempt to rebel against this take-over, though not much else on the season’s plot has been given about the story yet. Fans of the show will have to wait and see if more information on the plot is revealed by showrunners in the coming weeks until the show’s premier. American Horror Story: Cult will air on FX on September 5th, just in time for fans to begin preparing for the Halloween season!
