Alien Covenant Clip Reveals Frightening Facehugger Encounter (VIDEO)
This is one snuggle bug you do NOT want to mess with! In a new clip from the upcoming Alien Covenant film, viewers get their first real glimpse at the damage the franchise’s most iconic creature can cause as it leaps on one of the crew’s faces and promptly begins to burn his skin. Who honestly isn’t terrified of the Facehugger, anyway? Check out the clip below to see this terrifying encounter:
With only a week to go before the film ultimately releases, this terrifying Facehugger clip is definitely enough to instill a sense of fear into the audience at large. This clip also shows that there is a lot of gumption behind the film, unafraid to pull out all the stops to really dive deep into the heart of what makes the Alien franchise so damn scary. It is this sense of confidence in its material that has driven fans to stay true to the franchise even after previously failed films and not so great prequels were released (we’re looking at you, Prometheus).
Recently, director Ridley Scott revealed the studios intentions on continuing the saga, announcing in an interview with IGN that a sequel to Covenant is already in the works, and that film creators will begin filming that “within the next 14 months”. This shows a lot of confidence in the franchise, though it is important to note that Scott has no intentions on returning to the lost Alien 5 film that ended up hitting the cutting room floor entirely. In previous interviews, Scott had mentioned the name “Awakening” in reference to Neill Blomkamp’s failed film, and suggested that any future sequels to Covenant may or may not take up the title in its stead.
They wanted to do Alien, er, Awakening – Neill Blomkamp. I said fine. I was going to be the producer. If I could have, I would have. Except I do question – why have both [Blomkamp’s Alien and Scott’s Alien] out there? It seems like shooting your big toe off – it doesn’t make sense. But they didn’t go forward with it, Fox, so I just kind of kept out of it. I mean, I’d literally ignited this thing to bring it off the ground again, because it was lying there dormant on a shelf. I had this thing to bring it back up – but here we are.”
For those interested in seeing this frightening film (and all the cuddly Facehugger moments within), make sure to head on over and order tickets before next week’s opening. Alien Covenant stars Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Danny McBride, and Demian Bichir, with an appearance by James Franco.
