Hideo Kojima recently sat down with Norman Reedus and Geoff Keighley at the Tribeca Film Festival to discuss many things, including the upcoming mysterious title Death Stranding. One of the topics they touched on during the event was how the inbound game features some new aspects not really seen in open world games before.

The director talked about how he wants to ensure the entirety of Reedus is in Death Stranding. “I’m trying to put every aspect of Norman in [Death Stranding],” he said. “You will see everything.” It was also noted that after Reedus got a new tattoo during filming, Kojima updated the game to include this tattoo, which will surely make anyone wonder about the kind of detail we are all going to encounter in the game.

Kojima then went on to say how the main difference between movies and games is player choice, which then led to him reiterating how the upcoming game is about “connection.” The director also said, “I want people to play and enjoy the story, but also look at the real world and see how it’s close or different.” Kojima even noted that Death Stranding, for particular players, may evoke some of the human rights crises happening around Europe.

We may know a few things about Death Stranding, but even after combining that information with the trailers we’ve received, it is mighty difficult to determine what the upcoming game is all about. One thing is for certain, however – it’s currently in development for PlayStation 4 and possibly the PlayStation 5.
