Shadow Of The Tomb Raider’s ‘The Nightmare’ Expansion Revealed

Shadow Of The Tomb Raider's 'The Nightmare' Expansion Revealed

Square Enix has revealed the first details of the next upcoming Shadow of the Tomb Raider expansion. Announced in a tweet via the official Tomb Raider account, ‘The Nightmare’ expansion will see Lara Croft going up against “fallen friends and familiar enemies” as she explores a hauntingly scary Croft Manor. A short clip accompanies the tweet which can be seen below, depicting Lara as she explores the foggy grounds outside her home.

So, what exactly is the story behind The Nightmare? Well, according to Square Enix, it involves a powerful weapon Lara Croft is attempting to obtain. “In order to obtain a powerful and mysterious weapon, Lara Croft must face the music in a brand new challenge tomb, battle foes who look like but are not like any she’s ever faced and confront the deadliest enemy of all: herself.” Ancient powerful weapons? Challenge tombs? Yep, sounds like Tomb Raider.

In addition to the weapon (whatever it may be), fans can also look forward to the new Fear Incarnate Gear Pack featured in the expansion. Here’s the breakdown of its stats from community manager Morrigan Johnen:

Embrace your primal instincts with the Fear Incarnate Gear pack from The Nightmare! The Scales of Q are crafted from thick hides and solid bones providing twice as much resistance to melee attacks. Arm yourself the Grip of Fear, a climbing axe optimized for fighting which has an increased chance to knock enemies down and stay down longer.”

Shadow of the Tomb Raider: The Nightmare expansion will be available on January 22nd as part of the game’s season pass, and will likely be available separately as well. The game is now available for purchase on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
