Phil Spencer Promises “More Native” PC Experience Following “Impostor Console Work” (VIDEO)
The numerous events at E3 2018 may have been quite the huge task for gamers to absorb, but it is likely none had it busier than the head of Xbox Phil Spencer. The Xboss not only presented during Microsoft’s lofty E3 conference, but also took part in numerous interviews discussing the Xbox brand’s big plans for the future. It was at the “Gaming For Everyone” panel when the question arose about the PC side of things and whether improvements were on the way for the platform.
Spencer answered the fan concerns, acknowledging early attempts to establish Games for Windows Live were “well-intentioned,” but ultimately weren’t right for the larger PC audience. He notes how players saw right through “impostor console work” that attempted to inject streamlined console elements into PC and how the result didn’t exactly resonate with much of anyone.
You could see that some of the people making decisions there and some of our early efforts were really more console-to-PC than respecting the PC audience and the things that they were looking for.”
Phil Spencer went on to speak about how Xbox plans to address these problems, as they desire to “rework” the experience to be “more reflective of the PC community.” While new developments for the PC app such as Discord and Xbox Live were admitted to be slowing as of late, the long-term goal is to “meet PC gamers where they are” and provide a “much more native” experience in the future.
